THE TIMES AND LIFE OF LATE MR RAYMOND OKECHUKWU AMUNEKE (JP) FROM AUGUST 16 1942 – JAN 15 2013



Sincerely, it is a big challenge to write about someone who is close and means a lot to you. Nevertheless, I am compelled at this time to testify the life my father lived.
Mr. Raymond Okechukwu Amuneke (JP) was born on 16th August, 1942 to the family of late Mr. & Mrs. Johnson Amuneke in Umuanu kindred, Umuonyeche village in Owerri municipal council. His father had burning desire to train his children in school, so Ray as he was fondly called was admitted into Christ Church School Owerri (1951 -1956), being very brilliant, he proceeded to Federal Teaching College Okpala (1957). Bishop Lasbrey College Irete (1964-1970), Then to University of Nigeria  Nsukka (1982-1983, 1989-1993) where he had his First and Master’s degree on Guidance and Counseling. Sir Ray as a teacher taught in several places like
(1) Uzii Layout primary School Owerri & Umudibia primary school Nekede (1971-1980) as class room teacher
(2) Urban school 1 Owerri and Samuel Njemanze primary school Owerri (1989-1998) as Headmaster 1 & 2.
As an Administrator, he worked In Owerri Local Government Education Authority (1989-1998) as principal supervisor of schools and the Assistant chief personnel officer, Educational Secretary of Owerri municipal council from (1999-2003) and In SUBEB as a Deputy Director in charge of planning and statistics from 2002 till his retirement.
Being so sociable, Sir Ray offered to serve humanity in several offices.

 Chairman Ebiri Agaracha age grade Azuzi, General Secretary Ebiri Agaracha age grade (2000), General Secretary Umuonyeche Community Assembly, General Secretary  Umuanu kindred meeting, Chairman Council of Educational Secretaries Imo State chapter. (1999-2003), Assistant Secretary St Barnabas family Christ Anglican Church Owerri ,member Educational Board, Christ Ang. Church Owerri, member  Parochial Church Committee (P C C) Christ Ang. Church (2004).member  transition sub committee on education Owerri Municipal Council 1999. Member Owerri Community Assembly Think Tank Committee.

Sir Ray lived a selfless and humorous life, this can be testified by his relations and all that came in contact with him.                                                                                                                                              Married to Mrs. Chinyere Amuneke, their union was blessed with wonderful children. I know Sir Ray would be very surprised and honored to see so many of us here for him. I love him and miss him as am sure we all do.

Sir Ray, a man of peace, you have fought and you have conquered therefore laa Na udo, Sir Ray, NAA..NAA!!  It is well with your soul.
